Darién National Park

Darién National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Darién) is a world heritage site in Panama. It is about 325 kilometers from Panama City, and is the most extensive of all national parks of Panama and is one of the most important world heritage sites in Central America.
The Darién National Park is a natural bridge spanning the two Americas.
In 1972 an area of 700,000 hectares (7,000 km2) became part of the Alto Darién Protection Forest. In 1980 the area was declared a National Park. In 1983 an area of 859,333 ha (8,593.33 km2) became a UNESCO biosphere reserve. The park covers 5,790 km2 (579,000 ha).[4]
It is located in southernmost Panama in Darién province and its southern boundary extends along 90% of the Panama Colombian border. It lies between the Serranía del Darién range, which parallels the Caribbean Sea 16 km to the northeast, and the Pacific Ocean coast.

Darién Province

Darién is a province in Panama whose capital city is La Palma. With an area of 11,896.5 km2 (4,593.3 sq mi), it is located at the eastern end of the country and bordered to the north by the province of Panamá and the region of Kuna Yala. To the south, it is bordered by the Pacific Oceanand Colombia. To the east, it borders Colombia; to the west, it borders the Pacific Ocean and the province of Panama.

Government and politics

Panama's Constitution of 1972, as amended by the Reform Acts of 1978 and by the Constitutional Act of 1983, presents a unitary government, republican, democratic and representative. They represented the three branches of government, as for the other provinces of the Republic of Panama.

Districts and townships:

During the time of annexation to Colombia, by Act July 23, 1824, Congress abolished the greater mayorship Colombia Darien and created the "Canton Darien," incorporated into the province of Panama. 

In 1855, with the establishment of the Federal State of Panama, Panamanian territory was divided into departments and districts. Law No. 22 of December 27, 1922 created the province of Darien, divided into 2 districts (Chepigana and Pinogana), with the head to La Palma. The Kuna of Wargandi, was established by Act No. 34, of July 25, 2000, in a geographic area segregated districts and Pinogana Chepigana in Darien Province, with an area of ​​77,500 hectáreas.12 

Currently the province of Darien comprises four political-administrative districts: Chepigana Pinogana, Cémaco and Sambu....

History

The expedition landed October 30 , 1698 in Anachucuna , a sandy bay in the north of Darien near Golden Island. It forged a "treaty of alliance and friendship " with an Indian leader , and founded a colony in Acla Known as New Caledonia.

Paterson and his withstood a Spanish expedition force Which Attempted to confront them. However , diseases related to the climate and unsanitary conditions soon decimated the expedition . In June 1699 the Scots were forced to leave New Caledonia, DESPITE protests from Paterson , and retreated to Jamaica .
A second expedition left Scotland on September 24 , 1699 from Port Clyde River with four ships : the Rising Sun , Hamilton , Hope of Boroughstonness and Company 's Hope ) . Total Paterson had a crew of 1,300 men . On November 30, 1699 They arrived safely at the port of Caledonia, but met resistance from Greater Spanish forces ; They were besieged , outnumbered and without external support. Demography

The Darien population is mostly comprised of indigenous, black and settlers who migrated from other provinces (mainly Chiriqui, Los Santos, and veragüenses herreranos) in search of good land and better opportunities.
The musical expression that distinguishes the people is the bullarengue Darien, a drum dance purely African descent. Hydrology

In Darién Province watersheds form extensive sedimentary waterways, pouring their waters into rivers such as the 231-kilometre (144 mi) Rio Chucunaque and the 230-km Tuira (the longest, most treacherous rivers in Panama). The hydrographic system in the province shows a minimum flow in March and April and a maximum in November.
